Yosakoi in Penang 2013
Yosakoi in Penang. First time happening in Penang, already being promoted in FB, flyers, banners since months ago. I never heard of it before even though I used to stay in Japan long time ago. I guess maybe it's a festival in some part of Japan. I wasn't really looking forward for this, but there I was at Padang kota on 19 Jan 2013 night time. Parking was hard to find, because of so many people, but I finally got it near little India.
According to the flyer the festival is about street dancing. There was some street dancing, Japanese traditional and even modern dancing. There was also costume shows of samurai, star wars. Most dances are from Malaysia, the choreographers are from Japan, as I was told. More photos can be found here.
Photos taken with my EPL-1, mostly using 45mm 1.8, the only fast glass I had. The street was quite dim and the action was fast, so not so easy to get a good shot. Had to used ISO up to 2500 and many times used the internal flash. The stage area was nicely lit, so I got most of the best shot there.
Afterwards the show continued on the stage for some more dancing.
There are also Japanese food stalls, but non halal so no eating that night.
Well, I had some fun taking photos, which was the main reason I was there. Adios.
